Obituary of Ray L. Strobbe
Ray L. Strobbe, age 83 of Coralville died Monday, July 29, 2024, at his home unexpectantly.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Monday, August 5, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford, with burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Oxford. The visitation will be from 1 to 4 pm Sunday at the church in Oxford.
Ray was born October 14, 1940, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Leroy Strobbe and Viola Strobbe. Growing up in Long Grove, he attended school there and graduated from North Scott High school. He obtained his bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa and his master’s degree from the University of Iowa. He met Jan Stockman in Oxford, Iowa while teaching and they married December 28, 1965 at St. Mary’s Church in Oxford, Iowa. He became a principal and ended up finishing his career in the Clear Creek Amana Community School District. He was well respected by all his colleagues and students as someone who was patient, kind, hardworking and conscientious with his work. He enjoyed watching Hawkeye sports and talking about current events. He will be deeply missed by many.
His family includes his daughter, Karen Davison, grandchildren, Finn and Liam; former son-in-law, Trevor Davison, brothers Don (Mike) Strobbe, Dennis (Vi) Strobbe, sisters MaryAnn (John) Dismer, Madonna (Steve) Engler, Nancy (Ken) Johnson, sister-in-law RuthAnn Strobbe; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ray is preceded in death by his wife Jan, infant son Bradley and brother James.
