Obituary of Gregory G. Piper
Gregory “Gregg” G. Piper, age 61 of Iowa City, died suddenly at his home on Monday, February 12, 2024.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 to 5 pm Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Private family graveside services will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Gregg’s memory.
Gregory Glenn Piper was born May 4, 1962, in Iowa City, the son of Fred and Ryta (Shelton) Piper. Attending schools in Iowa City, Gregg graduated from City High School with the Class of 1980. Gregg has worked most of his adult life at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. While he wasn't working, he enjoyed his hobbies. Growing up he found a love for all things Star Trek. Being a "Trekkie" he participated in and won several awards at TrekFest in Riverside, IA. He also loved performing magic tricks in his younger years and attended conventions for the "International Brotherhood of Magicians" in the Midwest. During his time as a student and employee at the U of I he often DJ'ed at local KRUI radio station, sharing his love of 80's music to anyone who listened. Gregg also appreciated history and collected WWII memorabilia throughout the years. He will be remembered for his creativity and good humor.
His family includes his wife, Brenda (Ruzek) Piper; daughter and her husband, Ashley and Jordan Corpman; Gregg’s mother Ryta Piper; siblings, Pam Hinkhouse (Glenn), Steven Piper and Gary Piper (Paula); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Gregg was preceded in death by his father, Fred M. Piper Jr.
