Mary Louise Harney was born May 31, 1966, in Iowa City the daughter of Robert J. Harney Sr. and Rosalee A. (Sullivan) Harney. She attended schools in the Clear Creek school district graduating with the Class of 1984 from Clear Creek High School. She received her RN degree in Nursing from Kirkwood Community College. Mary worked as a nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City Hospice, Amana Care Center, Pleasantview Care Center in Kalona, and Lantern Park Care Center in Coralville. She also worked parttime at The Depot in Oxford. She was united in marriage to Charles L. Schropp on June 10, 1994, at the former Methodist Church in North Liberty.
Mary loved life, and those around Mary couldn’t but help love Mary. She was a person that gave far more than she ever received, and that was just the way she wanted it. 20 plus years as a First Responder for the City of Oxford, many evenings and early mornings supporting the dying and their families showing respect, dignity and much love to those in their final moments through Hospice care. She was known to enjoy cooking for family and friends, especially her chicken noodle soup. Many have received a call at all times of day and night from Mary asking “Are you busy…….. really didn’t want anything”! Just her way of showing her love for you. And then came her passion for the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs, never hard to find Mary when her teams were playing!
Her family that dearly loved her and will miss her larger than life being include her husband, Charlie; their sons, A.J and Matthew; siblings, Bette Roggentien (Dana), Lisa Steele, Connie Bream, Bob Harney (Linda Loucks), and Toni Cooling (Bryan); numerous nieces and nephews, her father-in-law, Eugene Schropp and sisters-in-law, Jackie Schropp, Cathy Roach and Brenda Davila. She was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law, Phyllis Schropp; brothers-in-law, Mike Bream and Dean Lange; sister-in-law, Connie Schropp and dear special friend from her days with Hospice, David Packard.
