Obituary of Ellyn Slocum Found
Ellyn Slocum Found, 55, devoted wife of Ernie Found and loving mother of Gregg, Catharine and Caroline Found ended her courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on Tuesday, August 23, 2011.
Ellyn and her family lived in Iowa City for 24 years and embraced their chosen hometown with zeal and affection. Ellyn immersed herself in her community, school, church, sporting events, and volunteer activities, including most recently Hospice. She humbly opened her home and her heart to any individual, family or group in need, and she enjoyed making a complete stranger feel good about themselves.
Ellyn relished her many roles – daughter, sister, friend, aunt, mentor, confidant and above all, loving wife and mother.
She was born to Jim and Helen Slocum in 1955, graduated from Catholic Central High School in Binghamton, NY; received a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy from Utica College and a Masters Degree in Communications from Syracuse University. She nurtured many patients in her work as a hand therapist.
Ellyn will rest in peace with her beautiful daughter, Caroline, 17, who predeceased her earlier this month.
Ellyn will be greatly missed by her husband, Ernie; her son Gregg and daughter Catharine; her sisters Mary, Susan, KC and Aileen; her brothers Mark, Joe and Bob; her aunts and uncles; her cousins; her nieces and nephews; her brothers and sisters-in-law, and her parents-in-law Ernie Sr. and Eleanor Found.
Ellyn will be remembered for her heartwarming smile and sincerity.
