Obituary of Linda K. Kennedy
Linda K. Kennedy, age 68 of Iowa City died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, November 16, 2006, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday, November 20, 2006, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Lindas memory to Iowa City Hospice or St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Linda Kathleen (Klein) Kennedy was born December 14, 1937, in Iowa City, the daughter of Frederick and Jessie (Kallaus) Klein. Following graduation from Iowa City City High School in 1955, she attended and later graduated from the University of Iowa in 1963, with a degree in Home Economics with an emphasis in textiles and clothing. On October 5, 1963, she married Dr. James Richard Kennedy at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Lindas life was caring for their children, supporting her husband in his veterinary practice, belonging to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, a member of Beta Sigma Phi, TTT, The University Club, University of Iowa Alumni Association, her bridge clubs, Rotary Friendship Exchange Program, and the many auxiliaries in the Veterinary Profession. She and Dick traveled the world with dear friends through these associations. Her family includes her husband, Dick; children, Jay Richard Kennedy of Maplewood, MN, Kristin Kay Peterson and her husband, Chris, of West Des Moines, Sara Ann McKay and her husband, Brad, of West Des Moines, and Todd Michael Kennedy and his wife, Kelly, of Copley, OH; three granddaughters, Jordan Nicole Peterson, Chloe Alexandra Peterson, and Molly Marie Kennedy; one grandson, Aidan Martin McKay; Lindas sister, Judy Keefer and her husband, Jim of Iowa City. Linda was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Virginia Lea Zdychnec. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Lindas family and her services.
