Obituary of Irene L. Beemer

Irene L. Beemer, age 82 of 1124 Kirkwood Court, Iowa City died at Mercy Hospital Thursday, October 5, 2006, following a brief illness. Memorial services will be held at 7pm Thursday, October 12, 2006, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. There will be a time of visitation from 5:30 pm until services and following the services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her memory to Mercy Hospital Foundation. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Irene was born January 5, 1924, in New York City, NY, the daughter of Esteban and Maria (Muruaga) Larrinaga. She graduated from high school in New York City. On November 7, 1943 she married D.W. “Dunk” Beemer in Huron, SD. The couple moved to Iowa City in 1956. Here she was active as a volunteer at Mercy Hospital, enjoyed the many bridge groups she belonged to, always found the time for her golf game at the Elks Country Club, but most of all, her family, especially her grandchildren brought so much joy to her life. Her family includes fours sons, Raymond Beemer and his wife, Pat of Iowa City, Richard Beemer and Trina of Iowa City, Thomas Beemer and his wife, Lori of North Liberty, and Stephen Beemer of Iowa City; ten grandchildren, Betsi Sherman and her husband, Matt, Chris Beemer and his fiancé, Jill Miller, Shivonne Beemer, Steven Beemer, Jason Paul Beemer, Calvin Ray Beemer, Dalton Beemer, Tim Beemer, Michelle Beemer and Angela Beemer; and her special niece, Kathryn Nardone. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, John and Stephen Larrinaga, and sister, Frances Sabatino.
