Obituary of Sally J. Portwood

Sally J. Portwood, age 76 of Tiffin died Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 25, 2006, at Gay & Ciha Funeral Chapel in Oxford. Burial will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Oxford. Visitation will be from 9am Monday until services. A memorial fund has been established in her memory. Sally was born May 29. 1930 in Iowa City the daughter of Robert and Nellie (Newkirk) McComas. She was united in marriage to James “Jim” Portwood on September 12, 1947 in Iowa City. She has lived her entire life in this area. Sally was an avid fan of Kenny Rogers; she lived to go to his concerts! She liked the outdoors, her garden, flowers, and Mother Nature, but most of all her love for family and home was her life. Her family includes a son, Michael Portwood of Tiffin; daughter, Michelle Reynolds and her husband, Allen of Oxford; grandson, Andrew Reynolds of Oxford; sister-in-0law, Helen Richardson of Iowa City, and brother-in-law, Ivan Portwood of Oxford, and her dear friends, Carilyn Wieland, Priscilla Johnson, and Marie Taylor. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Nancy Smith. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Oxford and Iowa City is caring for Sally’s family and her services.
