Obituary of Mary Pate Sweeting
Mary Pate Sweeting, age 78 formerly of 915 Hudson Avenue, Iowa City died Friday, June 2, 2006, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a long illness. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, June 5, 2006, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City with the Reverend Renee Lunemann officiating. Visitation will be from 11am until 1pm Monday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Memorial donations can be made in Marys memory to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Mary Elizabeth Pate was born January 2, 1928, in Iowa City the daughter of Edwin and Clara (Klein) Pate. She attended Iowa City schools, graduating from City High School. She was united in marriage to Harold D. Sweeting on October 17, 1946, in Iowa City. She had worked in food service at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City and also at West High School. Mary was a former member of the White Shrine and Moose Auxiliary. Those who knew Mary knew that she loved to play cards, travel, and just be on the go enjoying life! Her family includes her son and his wife, Steve and Judy Sweeting of Ventura, IA; sister, Thelma Marshall of Wataga, IL; two grandchildren, Wendy Aldrich and her husband, Randy of Tiffin, and Chief Casey Sweeting currently serving in the United States Navy; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Randall Aldrich and Owen David Aldrich; brothers-in-laws and their wives, Carl and Maxine Sweeting and Roger and Joyce Sweeting all of Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Dorothy Moody. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Marys family and her services.
