Obituary of Betty J. Stolley Fiagle
Betty Stolley Fiagle, age 77 of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Riverside, Iowa died Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at the Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with the Reverend Judy Gingerich officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Tiffin. Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm Friday at the funeral home in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Betty Joan Stolley Fiagle was born November 6, 1928, in Riverside, Iowa the daughter of Rudolph and Wilhelmina (Myers) Stolley. Following graduation from Riverside High School in 1946, she went on to Iowa City Business College for two years. For a number of years she worked at the crippled childrens clinic, (Hospital School) at the University Hospitals. She married Earl C. Fiagle on October 31, 1953, in Lone Tree, Iowa. Following marriage she worked for Drs. Ray and Robb as a medical secretary in Cedar Rapids. She cared for her children as they were growing up. Later she worked for the selective service draft board, and later for JTPA (Job Training Partner Act) in Cedar Rapids. Betty was a former member of the Cherry Valley Homemakers, she was an passionate collector of Betty Boop; she enjoyed and was very good at sewing, having sewed her own wedding dress, daughter-in-laws, and much clothing for her family throughout the years. During canning season, you could always find Betty hard at work with her fruits and vegetables. Her family includes two sons; Jeff Fiagle and his life partner, Nick Irving of Des Moines; Mark Fiagle and his wife, Rosemary of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Brandon Fiagle of Cedar Falls; Bethany Fiagle and Adam Fiagle both at home in Iowa City; her sister, Faithe Mincer and her husband, Frank of Riverside; and longtime friend, Carolyn Hinty and her husband, Richard of Springdale, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Earl on February 28, 2004; and four sisters, Arlene Lundquist, Delpha Wieland, Ruth Wieland, and Lila Pearson.
