Obituary of Jerome Whittington

Jerome Whittington, age 67 of 408 Peterson Street, Iowa City died unexpectedly at his home Tuesday, April 11, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Pastor Julie Goodlett officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 10am Tuesday until services at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Jerome’s memory. Online condolences may be sent for his family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Jerome was born February 3, 1939, in Chicago, IL the son of Lawrence and Vera Whittington. He graduated from high school in Chicago. In Chicago he worked for Sherwin-Williams for a number of years. Jerome married Sandra Partee. They moved to the Iowa City in the 1980’s where he was worked for the Iowa City School District as a custodian at Southeast Junior High until his retirement. His family includes his wife, Sandra, daughter, Kim Jefferies (Bertram); sons, Lamont Perkins (Jill); and Eugene Whittington; grandchildren, Antonio, Frankie, Andre, Jayda and Jordan Perkins; two sisters, Wyoming Kelley (Bennie); Denise Whittington; brother, Lawrence Whittington (Ladora); Aunts, Ruby Clark (Norman), and Edna Kindricks; nieces and nephews, Kojo, Kimyca, Enjilique, Barry, Trier-Lynn, Kimyl, Promise, Michael, Aisha, Remesha and Tiondra. Extended family includes, Ralph and Monique, Ralph Jr. (R.J.), Jasper, Djimon and Niara Washington; Eddie and Ella Parks, Eddie Walker, Ro Lloyd, and Melody Pole; brother-in-laws, Anthony Bryant (Diana), Kevin Bryant (Tirza) and Donald Sevier; and many friends who have been in Jerome’s life. Anyone that knew Jerome is lucky to have had such an extraordinary person in their lives. Jerome will be fondly remembered for his honesty, sense of humor, caring personality and as the original “Candy Man”. He will truly be missed, even by his birds!
