Obituary of Marie N. Buck

Marie N. Buck, age 68 of 23 Audubon Place, Iowa City died Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 16, 2006, at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Iowa City with the Reverend David Aanonson officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 6pm Sunday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, and Monday at the church after 9:30a.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Marie’s memory. Marie Neola Gilbertson Buck was born July 2, 1937, in Webster, South Dakota, the daughter of Theodore and Minnie (Goodhope) Gilbertson. She attended and graduated from Roslyn, SD High School in 1955, and received her nursing degree from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. She married James Roy Buck on August 26, 1962 in Roslyn. The couple had lived in Ann Arbor, MI, Lafayette, IN moving to Iowa City in 1981. In Ann Arbor she worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital, and in Iowa City at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Greenwood Manor Care Center. She was an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, member of the embroiders guild, and the craft guild. She enjoyed various crafts including weaving, cross-stitch, and needlework, but most of all her family and friends. Her family includes her daughter, Carolyn McGlaughlin and her husband, Dennis of Iowa City; sons, John Buck and his wife, Katy of Decorah, and James R. Buck II of Solon; three grandchildren, Hamish McGlaughlin, Tyler and Chelsey Buck. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, James on June 10, 1999.
