Obituary of Robert W. 'Bob&apos Stevens
Robert Bob Stevens age 91 of Iowa City died on Monday May 3, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Iowa City. Memorial donations may be given to Iowa City Hospice or to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be sent to his family at www.gayandciha.com. Robert William Stevens was born on January 15, 1913 in Iowa City the son of Elias and Kathryn Fieseler Stevens. When Bob was a young boy, his father Elias died. His mother then married Harrison Orr who adopted Bob and his siblings. He graduated from City High School in Iowa City and married Dorothy Prybil on May 19, 1937 in Iowa City. Together they owned and operated a dairy farm near Iowa City, for many years they supplied milk to the University of Iowa. Throughout the years he saw many changes in his farming operations. He started farming with horse drawn equipment and milking his cows by hand. Before he retired he had switched to tractors, milking machines and finally to all the modern day equipment of farming. He instilled in his children the value of hard work and the importance of family and friends. Bob was always willing to help others and his community. Bob enjoyed traveling, fishing and visiting with family and friends. Following retirement they spent winter months in Texas. He and Dorothy enjoyed dancing and playing cards. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City, a fifty year member of the Moose Lodge, a past member of the Eagles Lodge, Johnson County Farm Bureau and was active in helping with Johnson County 4-H. His family includes his wife, Dorothy of 66 years, two daughters, Shirley A. Connor and husband, Bob of Des Moines, Iowa, Judith L. Gabriel and husband, Ron of Palm City, Florida, two sons, Robert W. Stevens Jr. and wife Cindi of Iowa City and James E. Stevens of Iowa City along with nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
