Obituary of Edna M. Goettle

Edna M. Goettle, age 81 formerly of Iowa City, died Friday, February 20, 2004 at the Solon Nursing Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Judy Gingerich officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made in Edna’s memory to Solon Nursing Care Center. Edna M. Goettle was born February 6, 1923 in Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of Edwin and Matilda (Schaefer) Herron. She attended Iowa City Schools graduating from Iowa City City High School. She married William Guy Irvin July 4, 1943, in Tiffin. Following his death, she married Frances Joseph Goettle May 27, 1968 in Rock Island. She was always on the farm with her husbands, also for nearly thirty-five years she worked for New Process Laundry. Edna moved to the care center in 1999. Edna will be remembered for her love of her grandkids, the sparkle in her eyes. She enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels, her gardening, and then canning the fruits of her labors, and sharing them with others. Her family includes son and his wife, Guy and Arden Irvin of Iowa City; daughter and her husband, Jennifer and Dick Miller of West Branch; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Stacey, Guy Jr., Andy, Jeff, and Dillon; great-grandson, Dylon. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husbands,
