Obituary of Lavona M. Meister

Her family includes her daughter and her husband, Brenda L. and Dick Reeve of Iowa City; grandson and his wife, Michael E. and Dianne Reeve of Iowa City; two great-grandsons, James and Justin Reeve; and her sister, Eileen Schadey of Clinton, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, in 1962; son, Merrill D. Meister in the 1990’s, five brothers and five sisters. Lavona was born March 11, 1914 the daughter of Edith and Lester Hines. She married Earnest E. Meister in 1934 in Manchester, Iowa. For several years, she was employed by the University Of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, while most of her life she cared for her family and home. Lavona loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for others; often making far more that was needed. Quilting and sewing were ways she could share her talents with so many others, many being the receiptants of her work. She had this obsession with collecting stuffed bears; you could see them where ever you looked in her home. And she was one who so loved the outdoors and wildlife. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
