Obituary of Sarah M. Boerner
Sarah Mahree Boerner, age 95 of 237 Lexington Avenue, Iowa City died Saturday, July 10, 2004 at Windmill Manor in Coralville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with Dr. John McKinstry and Reverend Merle Melton officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home where P.E.O. memorial services will be held at 7p.m. A memorial fund has been established in her memory. Sarah Mahree Warriner Boerner was born January 15, 1909 on a farm in Davis County, near Belnap, Iowa the daughter of John Franklin and Elizabeth Ellen (Krewson) Warriner. She moved to Iowa City with her family in 1923, graduated from Iowa City City High School in 1927 and received her B.A. degree from the State University of Iowa in 1931. She married Frederick W. Boerner on June 10, 1931 in Iowa City. She was a member of the First Christian Church and a 69-year member of Chapter E, of P.E.O. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked in the family business for many years. Many will remember the beautiful panorama Easter eggs she designed and created which were sold locally as well as in Chicago and Los Angeles. Her family includes her two daughters, Anna M. Boerner and Carolyn L. Boerner, who lovingly have cared for her at home; two nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick in 1981; a son, Arthur W. in 1998; a sister, Freda L. Bridenstine and a brother, Clell C. Warriner.
