Obituary of Kathryn J. Tade
Kathryn Jane Tade, 81, of Iowa City, died Monday, September 19, 2005, having borne a long illness with grace and dignity. A reception for family and friends will be held Sunday, September 25, 2005 at the Iowa Memorial Union Sunporch from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm; with a brief commemoration at 2:00 pm. Memorials in Kathryns memory may be given to the Visiting Nurses Association. On line condolences for Kathryns family may be sent through the website @ wwwgayandciha.com. Kathryn has deeded her body to the University of Iowa Medical School. Kathryn was born September 2, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Ransom and Myrna (Nicola) Neel. She attended MacMurray College in Illinois and graduated from the Iowa Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She married William Howard Tade in Des Moines in August 25, 1946. In addition to caring for her family, Kathryn served as a nurse for many years, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and University Student Health Service. After retirement, she volunteered at the Iowa City Public Library, the Senior Center, and the Visiting Nurses Association, for which she served on the board of directors. She supported many local and national charities, and was a member of P.E.O. Chapter JF, Rose Hill Chapter of Questers, Dental Wives Club, University Club, Hancher Circle, Friends of the Public Library, Friends of the Hoover Museum, Friends of the Johnson County Heritage Museum, and Friends of Historic Preservation. Among her many accomplishments and avocations were gardening, reading, cooking for others, needlework, restoring antiques, bird watching, traveling, and piloting a plane. She is survived by her children and their partners, Mark Tade and Nancy Purington of Iowa City; Christine Tade and John Rogers of Iowa City; James and Susan Tade of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, and Paul Tade and Lynn Grey of Los Angeles, California; her grandchildren; Enosh and Rachel, Nathan and Sonya, Kathryn, Nicola, Allison, Miles, and great-granddaughter Mia; her sister, Patricia Nancarrow of Scottsdale, Arizona; She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Charles.
