Obituary of Holmer F. Hansen
His family includes a son and his friend, Thomas L. Hansen Sr. and Sharon Gerot of Riverside; daughter and her husband, Suzanne M. Hansen-Klucas and Joe Klucas of Sacramento, CA; four grandsons, Thomas and his wife, Sharon Hansen of Iowa City, Michael and his wife, Deb Hansen of North Liberty, Patrick and his wife, Lori and Timothy and his wife, Kelli all of Iowa City; grandchildren, Paul Thomas Hansen, Missey Clair, Emma Wright, Courtney Hansen, Kylie Hansen, Coulten Hansen, and Emily Hansen; Sisters, Elnora Farnsworth of Iowa City, Darlene Davids of Tualatin, Oregon, and Lauretta Wilkerson of Lemon Grove, CA. His wife, Bernice died April 5, 1996.
During WWII, he served his country in the United States Army.
He was born July 4, 1919, in Zearing, Iowa the son of Mary and Oscar Hansen. He attended schools in Zearing and later in Oxford.
On July 10, 1947, he married Bernice Winter in Keokuk, Iowa. For many years he was employed by Skelly Oil Company, he then worked for a time with C.H. Wilson Transport of Coralville and with the University of Iowa in the Physical Plant many years until his retirement in 1984. While employed with the University of Iowa one of his jobs that he loved was driving the bus for the Iowa Football Team. Swede was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church, past commander of VFW post 3949, a member and past president of Eagles Lodge #695. Swedes passions in life were bowling, gambling, golf, traveling, and cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes.
A memorial fund has been established in Swedes memory. Swede was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. The Cubs and Hawks have lost their best fan and friend.
