Obituary of Rowena A. Harvey

Rowena A. Harvey age 91 of Iowa City died following a short illness on Thursday, August 12, 2004 at Windmill Manor in Coralville. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2004 at Gay and Ciha Funeral Home. Private family burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, August 20th, 2004 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Troutman was born on October 27, 1912 in Millcreek, Pennsylvania the daughter of Charles and Ida (Barnett) Troutman. Rowena graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and served her country during WWII in the United States Navy. She was a Lieutenant on the U.S.S. Solace serving is the South Pacific. Rowena married Paul D. Harvey on June 22, 1944 in Jersey City, New Jersey. In 1958 they moved to Iowa City where she worked as a private duty nurse at Mercy Hospital. She then worked as a nurse in the Iowa City School system retiring in 1979. Following retirement she volunteered countless hours at the Iowa City Senior Center, Mercy Hospital and the Visiting Nursing Association. Rowena was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. She enjoyed playing bridge, visiting with her family and her many, many friends. Her family includes a daughter, Sue and husband, Jim Stockman of Iowa City, Sons, Jim and wife, Pat Harvey of Iowa City, John and wife, Kristi Harvey of Austin , Texas, Bob and wife, Sylvia Harvey of Corvallis, Oregon, grandchildren: Dan and Tim Stockman, Alex and Lou Harvey , and Emily and Mariah Harvey. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and husband, Paul. Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Rowena’s family and her services.
