Obituary of Pearl M. Barnes

Pearl M. Aubrecht Barnes, age 96 formerly of 715 5th. Avenue, Coralville died peacefully Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab Center in Coralville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 17, 2003 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City with Pearl’s grandson, the Reverend Robert W. Shaffer officiating. Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery, Lone Tree Iowa. Visitation will be from 3 to 6pm Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Pearl’s memory. Online condolences may be sent for Pearl’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Pearl was born December 11, 1906 in Clinton, Minnesota, the daughter of Ralph and Hazel (Bailey) Reidy. She married Lloyd C. Aubrecht in June of 1925. He later died in 1966; she married Joy Barnes in October of 1969. Joy died in 1998. She had been a resident of Coralville since 1950, prior to that she lived in Tiffin. For a number of winters she and her husband, Joy spent time in Florida. For nearly twenty years, she was employed in the Dietary Department at the Veterans Administration Hospital here in Iowa City. She was a member of the Parkview Evangelical Free Church in Iowa City, and a very willing and active volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center in Iowa City, where she enjoyed the fellowship and doing arts and crafts with others. Her family includes a son and his wife, Robert and LaVerne Aubrecht of Tiffin; daughter and her husband, Connie and Bob Stoddard of Junction City, KS; son-in-law, Robert Shaffer of Cedar Rapids; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Pearl was preceded in death by her husbands, son, Vern Aubrecht; daughter, Doris Shaffer; grandson, James R. Aubrecht; two sisters, Emma Aubrecht and Gladys Carlberg; and two brothers in infancy. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Pearl’s family and her services.
