Obituary of Mary J. Behan
Mary Jane Behan, age 78 of 1722 12th. Avenue, Coralville died Tuesday, December 6, 2005, at Lantern Park Care & Rehab Center in Coralville. Memorial services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, December 8, 2005, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Coralville with the Reverend Royce Phillips officiating. Following the services everyone is welcome for a reception and luncheon at the church. Mary Jane's wishes were to donate her earthly remains to the University of Iowa for medical research. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her memory. Mary Jane Eastman Behan was born July 4, 1927 in Clinton, Iowa. She was educated in the Clinton School System. In 1987 she married Francis "Bud" Behan in Moline, IL. For many years Mary Jane was a Mezzo-Soprano Soloist for manyClinton area churches. She was a charter member of the Clinton Junior Women's Club, a charter member of the Clinton Symphony Orchestra, where she held principal chair of the Violin section for many years. Later she served on the Clinton Symphony Board of Directors, and she also served as a guide for the Clinton Art Association. Her family includes her husband, Francis of Coralville; son and his wife, Jon and Diane Eastman of Coralville, two step-sons and their wives, Michael and Shelly Behan and David and Julie Behan all of Sabula, IA; and a step-daughter and her husband, Pamela and David Wright of Savanna, IL. Mary Jane was a deeply understanding person who exhibited kindness and generosity to all she met in a true Christian tradition. Mary Jane had a great love for classical Christian and other music, her loving support for her family, friends and a wide range of organizations was remarkable.
