Obituary of Clyde E. Finke
Clydes family includes his wife, Verla; son and his wife, Kevin and Jane Finke of Pueblo, CO; daughters and their husbands, Vicki and Thomas Fields of St. Paul, MN, and Pam Finke and Brian Egel of Nichols, IA; grandchildren, John Fields, Sarah Finke, Garrett Finke, and Andrea Fields; brother and his wife, Merlin and Frieda Finke of Crawfordsville; sister and her husband, Madonna and Larry Jack of Carlisle, IA; sister-in-laws, Audrey Finke of Crawfordsville, and Eunice Christopherson of Center Point, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Silas Jay Finke.
Clyde was born October 2, 1924 in Crawfordsville, Iowa the son of Silas L. and Velta M. (Beauchamp) Finke. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School, received his B.S. degree from Central College in Pella, IA, attended Willamette University in Salem, OR, and received his Masters degree from the University of Iowa. He served in the United States Navy in Guam during WWII. On May 31, 1949, he married Verla E. Brandenburg in Elkport, Iowa. He has been in the teaching and coaching profession for over 39 years, teaching in Bellevue, West Branch, Dundee, Il, Glen Ellyn, Il, West Liberty, and for over twenty years in the Iowa City Community School District
He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City, the Crawfordsville American Legion, Iowa City Moose Lodge, and West Branch Lion Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Clydes memory to the Iowa City Community Schools Foundation or Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
