Obituary of Betty A. Fluegel

Betty Gerard Fluegel, age 81, of 2801 Hwy 6 East, Iowa City, died peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones, Friday June 3, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 11am, Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm, Monday at the Gay and Ciha Funeral Home, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may given to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for Betty’s family though out website @www.gayandciha.com. Betty was born October 15, 1923 in Belle Plaine, Iowa to William and Beulah Phelps. On June 28, 1941 she married Gene F. Gerard in Lancaster, Missouri; he preceded on January 29, 1990. She married Frederick E. Fluegel, September 19, 1992 in Iowa City; he preceded January 11, 2004. Betty worked for 19 years as a dietician at Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, Iowa City. Betty was an avid bingo player and sports fan, especially enjoying the Iowa Hawkeyes. Her family includes 3 sons, Ronnie Gerard and wife, Betty of Moore Oklahoma, John Gerard and wife, Arlene of North Liberty and Bob Gerard of Iowa City, 4 daughters, “Tiny” and husband, Butch Kinzenbaw of Vista, California, Kay and husband, Don Tupper of Iowa City, Linda and husband Mike Parker of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Terri and husband, Ed Beranek of Solon, 24 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, stepchildren, Karen and husband, LeRoy Dawson of Solon and, Tim Taylor and wife, Julie of Iowa City and their families, 3 sisters and 1 brother. She was preceded by her parents, husbands, 7 brothers and 1 sister. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Betty’s family and her services.
