Obituary of Leo W. Hotz
Leo William Hotz, age 82, of 4835 Utah Avenue, SE, Iowa City died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 12, 2005, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial with military honors will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm Friday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Leos memory. Leo was born August 21, 1922, in Lincoln Township of Johnson County, Iowa, the son of Edward and Anna (Knotek) Hotz. On February 26, 1946, he was united in marriage to Velma L. Walker of Lone Tree and Tiffin, Iowa. He has been a rural Johnson County farmer all of his life. During World War II, he served in the United States Army. Leo was a member of the John L. Mumm American Legion Post in Lone Tree. For the past couple of years Leo has resided at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. He will be deeply missed by three sons, Jerry of Lone Tree, Roger of Iowa City and Randy of San Diego, CA; daughter and her husband, Janeice and Eli Silberman of Unionville, PA; two grandchildren, Jordan and Lindsey of Pennsylvania; in-laws, Mrs. Mayme Hotz, Mrs. Richard Hotz, Ivan and Nona Walker, Mildred Walker Lovetinsky and Betty Walker. Leo was preceded in death by his wife, Velma who died in 1998, five brothers, James, Louis, Harry, Ernest and Richard Hotz; and five sisters, Marie Estle, Lillian Prybil, Blanche Schomberg, Alice Brun, and Dorothy Rebal.
