Obituary of Jacqueline G. Duncan

Her family includes her sister, Shirley Converse of Iowa City; granddaughter and her husband, Ghezwa and Shane Reames of Wichita, KS, formerly of Iowa City; great-grandson, James Dean Reames; sister-in-law and her husband, Diane and Tom Sullivan of Keosauqua, IA; nieces and nephews including, Lew Converse and his wife, Cindy of Iowa City, Jay Sullivan and his wife, Christine, James Sullivan and his wife, Elizabeth, Joseph Sullivan, John Sullivan, Jeff Sullivan, Mary Sullivan, Jerald Sullivan, and Jacqueline Brummel. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jim; and son Mark Duncan. Jacqueline Gaile Duncan was born August 6, 1924, in Van Buren County, Iowa the daughter of Bruce R. and Velma (Miller) Duncan. She graduated Valedictorian from Rose Hill High School, Rose Hill, Iowa, and from St. Joseph’s Nursing College in Ottumwa with her nursing degree. She married James David Duncan June 28, 1945, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The couple had lived in Kansas City, MO, LaCrosse, WI, and Ottumwa, Iowa where she worked as a nurse. They moved to Iowa City in 1968 where they owned and operated four A&W Root Beer Stores in Iowa City, Coralville, and Ottumwa. She was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Iowa City, enjoyed playing bridge with family and friends, loved traveling with her family, enjoyed feeding and watching birds, reading a good book, and being there for Jim and her family. She will be remembered for her quiet ways, and inner strength to make it. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
