Obituary of Darrell E. Brown

Darrell E. Brown, age 86 of North Liberty died Friday, December 24, 2004, at Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab Center in Coralville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with Chaplin Mary Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Brown was born October 2, 1918, near Tiffin, Iowa the son of Everett and Mamie Pearl (Shepardson) Brown. He graduated from Tiffin High School in 1938. On September 20, 1942, he married Phyllis Pearl Ingalls in Kahoka, MO. The couple has lived in North Liberty most of their married lives. Phyllis died September 25, 2001. For over thirty-eight years, Darrell worked for the University of Iowa, through the athletic department. He retired in 1980, Darrell received the Distinguished Service Award from the university of Iowa Department of Athletics in 2000 for all his work this department. Not only was he a strong supporter of the Iowa Hawkeye’s, he also was a Lionel Train Buff for nearly fifty years. Darrell was a sixty-year member of the Eagles Lodge in Iowa City. His family includes his son, Dean Brown and dear friend, Karen Coonrod of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ralph Brown of Tiffin, and Leonard Brown of Versailles, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Saundra Nissley; two brothers, Kenneth and Lawrence Brown, and a sister, Evelyn Lightfoot.
