Obituary of Marie Lucille Svatos

Marie Lucille Svatos, 73 of 3402 Rochester Avenue, Iowa City died at her home surrounded by her loving family, Friday, August 15, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2003, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm Monday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Marie’s memory to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for Marie’s family through our website @ www.gayandciha.com. Marie was born on February 4, 1930 in Iowa City, the daughter of Louie John and Minnie Le Chrisa (Price) Villhauer. She was a life long resident of Johnson County, living in and around Tiffin, Oxford and Iowa City. She was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) E. Svatos, on April 12, 1950 at St. Wenceslaus Church, Iowa City, Iowa. She retired from Burge Hall cafeteria in February 2003 after many years of employment. Marie loved spending time with her family, gardening, cooking, canning, making cookies, candy, pies and noodles. In her free time she enjoyed adding to her Cardinal collection, playing any kind of card games, computer games and even an occasional trip to play the one armed bandits on the boat. Survivors include husband Bob Svatos of Iowa City, sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Gayle Svatos, Coralville, Tim and Becky Svatos, Iowa City, daughter and son-in-law, Maggie and Tom Curry, Muscatine, grandsons, Chad Curry, Brian Curry, Muscatine, Austin Svatos, Iowa City, granddaughters and grandson-in-law, Callie (Curry) and Will Valet of Tipton, Amanda Svatos, Elaine Svatos, Iowa City, Pamela Svatos and Meghanne Svatos, Coralville, great-granddaughter. Isabelle Elise Valet, Tipton, brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Mary Villhauer, Iowa City, Donnie and Marcia Villhauer, Atalissa, sisters and brother-in-law; Gretchen and Raymond Hess, Iowa City, Letha Hein, Iowa City, Joan Hummer, Oxford; and special friend, Heidi Bennett. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Carl, Leo, David, Louie and Herman Villhauer, sisters, Anna LaChrista (Mrs Kenneth) Shockley, HenriettaVillhauer and Louise (Mrs Edward) Huffman, daughter Pamela Suzanne Svatos and great-grandson Elijah Howard Valet.
