Obituary of Mabelle Irene Frantz

Mabelle Irene Frantz, age 79, of North Liberty, passed away on January 16, 2025 University of Iowa Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. 

Born on February 12, 1945 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Mabelle was the daughter of Chester and Josephine (Walker) Frantz.  She graduated from City High in Iowa City.

Mabelle worked as a social worker before moving to California, where she worked as a Kindergarten teacher.  Upon returning to the Iowa City area, Mabelle opened a daycare which she ran until her retirement.

Mabelle loved attending her children’s sporting events as they grew up.  She enjoyed the outdoors and was often found fishing or hunting pheasant, deer, squirrel, and rabbit.

Mabelle’s family includes her son, Christian Frantz of North Liberty; grandchildren: Miranda (Tyler) Stinson, Drake Frantz, Libby Frantz, Aubrey Frantz, Tanner Frantz, Luke Frantz, and Lily Frantz; a great-granddaughter, Sofia Stinson; and a brother, Roy "Butch" Frantz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer DeZarn; a son, Curt Frantz; and siblings, Marla Zimmer and Rodney Frantz.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family of Mabelle Frantz.
