I was Chairman of the Mathematics Department at Oakland University in 1977 when I met and hired Dave as Assistant Professor. It was obvious from the beginning that he was a great teacher. He was also a great colleague and fun guy to be with at social events, which my wife and I did a lot of with Dave and his wife Jane, especially to some of the fine restaurants in the area. Jane was an equally nice person. She took classes at the University and was a student in one of my classes. She excelled at everything. At one point in 1987, when my wife and I bought a new home in Orion Township, Dave and Jane bought the home we had put up for sale. I retired from the University the following year and our times together pretty much came to an end. Later when Dave was Dean, he was responsible for following through on the process that named me Professor Emeritus, for which I was always grateful. I was saddened when Jane passed away and now more so to get this news. He was a close friend and highly respected colleague. George Feeman
