Obituary of Henry Brown
Henry “Bigga” Brown, 64, of Coralville, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024, at his home. Visitation for family and friends will take place beginning at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service.
Henry was born August 29, 1959, on the island of Jamaica to parents Vassel Brown and Veda (Allen) McDonald. He came to Florida in his early twenties and worked in the fruit season and later his passion job as a concrete finisher. Henry was united in marriage to Shirley Dyson on September 10, 2010. The couple moved to Iowa City in 2012 in pursuit of better job opportunities.
He was a proud man, a great provider, a fantastic cook whose signature dish was curried goat meat with red beans and rice. Henry also loved to make a nice pot of soup. In his free time, you could usually find him listening to Reggae music, watching Western movies, or chatting on the phone with friends and family from near and far.
Henry’s family includes his wife, Shirley Brown; son, Kerone Brown; grandson, Kaheem; mother, Veda McDonald; and siblings, Linval Brown, Cynthia Murphy, Jacqueline Brown, George Brown, Fenton (Barbara) Brown, Dawn and Precious. Also, a dear friend Pauline Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vassel Brown.
