Obituary of Gail Brummel
Veronica “Gail” Brummel, a longtime resident of Iowa City, died at age 81 on July 17, 2024, in Portland, Michigan where she recently moved to live near her daughter and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11 am at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. The burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Friday, August 2nd at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Instead of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Gail’s memory to “Reach for Your Potential”, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, or Iowa City Hospice. Gail Walsh was born May 31, 1943, at St. Ann’s Hospital in Chicago, IL. She is the daughter of James, “Raymond”, and Veronica Dorthea (Moran) Walsh. She graduated from St. Francis H.S. in Wheaton, IL., where she met her life partner, Marv. On December 18, 1965, she was united in marriage to Marvin C. Brummel (“Marv”) in Wheaton. Shortly after that, Gail and Marv moved to Iowa City, where Marv began his graduate studies at the University of Iowa. Gail and Marv had three children. In addition to rearing their children, Gail worked for many years at the University of Iowa College of Law and St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. Gail loved, not only being involved in her children’s lives but also in the community. She was an active member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. She supported many local groups and organizations within the Iowa City community, to aid those in need. Gail loved life!! Especially, singing, dancing, and wearing her favorite color, red. She loved and looked stunning on the dance floor well into her seventies.
Her immediate family includes her son Jason (Deceased June 16, 2015) two daughters, Kristin Donbrock (Dave), and Laurie Brummel (Dan Yates); five grandchildren, Cory, Darci, Kara, Emma, and Ashley; sisters, Deirdre Jennings, Shannon Walsh, and brother R. “Brian” Walsh, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Veronica Walsh, husband, Marv, and son, Jason.
