Obituary of Carroll Darlene Whetstine

Carroll Darlene Whetstine, age 79, of Iowa City, died Saturday, May 11, 2024, at her home. A private family burial will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Carroll was born April 9, 1945, in Iowa City, to parents Carrol and Margaret (Haltstead) Hedges. She was united in marriage to John R. Whetstine on June 2, 1964, in Iowa City. The couple raised four children together: Barbara, Ramona, Jonnette, and Jerry. Carroll and John moved to Oxford the same year they were married. They lived there for more than 30 years before moving back to Iowa City in 1996. Carroll enjoyed puzzles, crocheting, and spending time with her family.

Her family includes her children, Barbara, Ramona, Jonnette, and Jerry; sister, Margaret Stonecipher; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends and extended family.

Carroll was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Whetstine; parents, Carrol Hedges and Margaret McAfee; sister, Susan Beaver; and brother, Ron Dage.
