I just learned of Paul's passing. I am retired now and after working from the time I was a teenager on I can say Paul was the best boss I ever had. He taught me to 'walk like I talk.'

I worked in the office for him as shipping and inventory control clerk. I lived across the street so on days the plant was shut down because it wasn't safe to be driving I would get over to the plant to find my boss Paul the only one to make it in. He drove from Hills.

He had integrity. And he was always fun. He got me to go to the plant on weekends to feed the ducklings that had been born in the parking lot. I believe 3 of them made it to Hills with him. Almost all of my favorite work stories include him. He expected you to work and do your job, and his recognition of your work meant a lot. I have missed him in the time since I left Iowa City but I stopped for gas once and caught him mowing a triangle of grass on the Hills exit. That was Paul.

I worked with Paul at HP Smith from 1982 until he retired. What a great person to work with and be around. Never a dull moment. Also had a drink or two with him at the VFW in Riverside in later years.

Paul was a wonderful man, I met him while he worked at Hills Bank. He always asked about my family and truly listened to my jabber about them. I have thought of him fondly many times. I'm sending my sympathy to his entire family. He will be missed by many.

Paul was my supervisor at HP Smith fro 1972-1984. Great to work for and there was never a dull moment. He inspired me to get into management… Rest in peace friend..
