Obituary of Kellie M. Haigh

Kellie Haigh, age 43, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024. Public visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 27, 2024, with a memorial service beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, 2720 Muscatine Avenue, Iowa City, Iowa.

Kellie Marie Haigh was born February 9, 1980, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to parents William Haigh and Nancy Freudenberg. The family settled in Indianola, Iowa, where Kellie attended school from kindergarten through her graduation from Indianola High School with the class of 1998. Kellie was a very talented musician. She earned All State honors for her oboe playing three times and played flute and cymbals in the marching band. She even traveled to Europe in high school as a part of the Ambassadors of Music program. Kellie also enjoyed listening to all different kinds of music.

After graduating from high school Kellie enrolled at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where she would earn her undergraduate degree in Peace Studies. She went on to the University of Iowa where she earned her master’s degree in social work in 2004. As part of her career Kellie worked as a social worker for the Arc of Johnson County and as a Disability Navigator for Workforce of Iowa. Kellie was united in marriage to James Weber on June 13, 2009, in Ames, Iowa.

In her free time Kellie loved to read. She would read anything she could get her hands on – she even won reading awards in her younger years. Always a lover of fur animals, Kellie cared for numerous disabled cats over the years. It was almost as if they knew where to go to get the help they needed. Kellie was a member of the National American Friends Service Committee and a staunch disability rights activist.

Kellie’s family includes her husband, James Weber; stepchildren, Caleb Sims, Logan Weber, and Kenneth Weber; grandchildren, McKennah Sims, Bradee Sims, Jaegger Sims, Cooper Sims, Melody Weber, Jackson Weber, Miguel Weber, Hannah Weber, Aubry Weber and Shaelyn Weber; aunts, Linda (Robert) Ripple, Julie Miller, and Jill (D.J.) Sidlinger; uncle, Jim Freudenberg. She is survived by her parents Nancy (Bob Krebs) Freudenberg and William (Nancy) Haigh, and by many cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Kellie’s name to Whiskers TNR of Warren County Iowa at whiskerstnr.org or a local no- kill pet shelter in your area. Kellie’s fur babies Dude, Lily Rose, Grayson James and JoJo thank you on their behalf too.
