Condolences
I am so sorry to hear of the death of Bill. I knew him when I lived in Iowa City in the 60s. His wife Jan was and is still a good friend. She and I took a vacation trip to Canada once and as we crossed the border and were asked where were you born, I answered first, Madison WI. She answered next and said the same thing. I thought she was flushered but it turned out it was true which we did not know of either of us.
He was a good man and friend. Although we had not gotten together for several years when I would return to IC for meetings, I shall still miss him and visiting Jan. May he rest in peace. Charlotte A Burns.
I am so sorry to hear about Bill’s passing. He was always so friendly and kind. I will never forget being a little kid watching him mow his pristine yard with that push mower. He would catch me watching him mow. As I sat there wondering why he wasn’t using a gas mower he would just smile and wave hi. He was a wonderful neighbor. I will be praying and thinking of you all.
Dear Dostal Family,
Heartfelt sympathy but also heartfelt thanks! He was my mentor during my physical therapy clinical rotation (1975) @ Iowa City Hospitals & Clinics. He not only nurtured knowledge but love of the physical therapy profession.
God’s Blessings & Peace,
Kathy (Kasper) Slown

Dear Jan,
Sincere condolences on the passing of Bill. He sure was an accomplished man! I enjoyed seeing you both at Legacy during difficult times with my mom, Jan Kinney. Your unwavering commitment to your husband was admirable. May he rest in eternal peace and may you hold your good memories close.

Dear Jan and family, Tony and I wish to express our condolences to you and your family. We grew up with such fun memories of building Tee-pees and playing Monopoly with Bill and the brothers. He was such a lovely man and we are very sorry for your loss. Sandy and Tony Amberg
Dear Jan and family,
So sorry to hear of Bill’s passing and your loss. I will always remember visiting their big house in Iowa City as a little kid. Bill always took the time to take interest in us little kids and make us feel welcome. He was always so kind. You and your family are in my prayers.

Bill will always have a place in our hearts for the time he spent working with others at the Free Lunch Program.
Dear Dostal Family,
Your husband/father was a wonderful man. He was very faith-filled and kind to those around him. He led his life with service to others. He will be missed. Prayers for you at this difficult time.

Our memories with Jannie and Bill extend to a Swiss reunion with Alphorns in our backyard, to gracious hosting as we stopped through on our way home from the Steam Show in Mt Pleasant, to missing a dinner engagement because we don't keep time with the majority, to a long long ago summer on the back steps of Aunt Susie's with real lemonade on St Paul Ave where the Milwaukee Road tracks ran. Our needlessly frenetic lives allowed us to be out of touch for decades. Barb and I are rediscovering each other and have learned by admiring the deep and genuine expression of christian love radiated by Jannie and Bill. That's a treasure beyond value for which we will attempt to express our gratitude with a hug when we stop by this Friday.

I'm so sorry to hear about Bill's passing. I always had the utmost respect for him when we led the Webelo's in the early to mid '80's and also his contributions to the Scouting world. He will be missed.
So very sorry to read this. This man was a sterling example of Catholicism. May the Angels come out to greet him and take him Home until we all meet again.

Godspeed Bill we shall meet again someday on the other side, my deepest sympathies to Jan and your children.
Jan and family… I am saddened today reading of the passing of Bill. As a new grad Bill mentored me and was foundational in my decision making process as a therapist. I recall many fun times at your home during those days. Ann and I extend our heartfelt condolences.
May peace be with all of you… Drew & Ann Bossen
The father of my best high school friend, Mr. Dostal was an outstanding and caring individual who treated all that he encountered, both young and old, with the utmost respect. He was an outstanding husband and father. I know he will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. My deepest sympathies go out to his family. God Bless the Dostal family.
