Obituary of Seth A. Calkins

Seth Calkins, 53, passed from the confines and complications from Diabetes and End Stage Kidney Disease.

Born December 22, 1970, Seth was a lifelong resident of Johnson County, Iowa. Seth enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. This gave him a reason to be outside in every season, a joy he shared with many people throughout his life.   

A man who tried to keep his head up when faced with life’s trials, Seth overcame much in his life. He worked hard and played harder. 

He cherished the life he created with his wife Deana (Buell), who will mourn his loss for eternity. Seth’s remaining family includes Michael Bear II (stepson), William Calkins (brother), Sharon Lentz Buell (mother-in-law), Kevin Shannon (family friend), Charles Buell (brother-in-law), Elizabeth (Zack) Campbell (sister and brother in law) and James (nephew), cousins, aunts, uncles. His dear friends will miss him immensely as well: Roger and Tami Phelps, Tim Kelly, Ted Spivey and Kalhil Abdel-Hameed. He also has four estranged children and five grandchildren from a previous marriage.

The family wants to express thanks to Iowa City Hospice, his extended family at Tractor Supply (formerly Orchlein’s), and those who have helped his family navigate this difficult journey. 

A gathering of friends and family will be held at a later date once the frigid temperatures allow. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Services has provided cremation services.
