Obituary of Woodrow E. Houser Sr.

Woodrow Edward Houser Sr., passed away on January 8^th, 2024, surrounded by many of his loved ones.

At 87 years old, he was a lifelong resident of Iowa City.  He was born on April 26^th, 1936, to Walter and Helen (Shimon) Houser.  He graduated from City High School & attended the University of Iowa.

He worked for Home Town Dairy and was in the trucking industry with Skelly Oil and others over the years.  In his free time, he enjoyed getting coffee with friends and watching Iowa sports.  Woody married Doris Bechtel on June 20^th, 1959.  Although they were later divorced, they had two wonderful sons together; Woodrow II (Mindy), and Bradford (Becky).  His grandchildren are: Samantha (Mike), Alinia (Joe), Benjamin, Taylor, Madison (John), and Braden. 

For those who knew Woody, he was known to be rather stubborn and at times, he could be quite grouchy but he truly loved each and every one of his grandchildren.  They were his absolute pride and joy.  He often told them how proud he was of them and that God blesses them. 

Woody is preceded in death by his parents, an infant granddaughter, Miranda Jane; and his siblings, William, Tony, and Larry. 

He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Forbes.

A private family service for Woody will be held.
