To Linda, Jeff and the whole extended family - I'm SO sorry for your loss. John was truely one of a kind. Linda, all the times I was lucky enough to join you and him and my parents were the best times ever. Constant laughter, knocking back a little sumpthin sumpthin, razzing each other, story telling. He was rather proud of his ever growing stash of flea market and estate sale treasures. There was one in particular he took great pleasure in creepin' me out with. Hanging from the ceiling in the pole building was a vintage wooden leg! He said "Look up there." and pointed. Of course I looked up, and it scared the heck out of me. Well he sure enjoyed THAT! And sweet Sammy. He loved that dog to the moon and back. I'm sure going to miss him. Love you all, Cindy

I can remember Uncle John teaching me how to shoot a pistol at my Grandpa Jim's land near Unionville Iowa. A great man he will be missed.

John will always have a special place in my heart. When I transferred to the ISP, I was blessed to have the best FTOs, that a new trooper could ask for. John was one of them, who got stuck with me the longest, but he didn't mind. I'm so glad John and I kept in touch over the years. Will miss seeing him at the retirees annual qualification and then enjoying a beer afterwards. Of course, we shared the same stories each time because they are awesome stories that I will cherish forever. I'm going to miss you 420. God bless John and his family. I was on the patrol for 16 years. I heard his name, but I don’t think I ever met him. He wore a brown shirt, so he is special. I retired after 32 years with DPS. So, so sorry for the family. Heaven has another hero to protect us now. God’s will. X-I161 Joe Thompson

Oh dearest cousin Linda. I'm so sorry. There are no words. The pain and heartache of loosing your Best Friend, Husband and your Rock, is the worst. You and John were my idols, since the two of you started dating. But you have been my idol since Day 1. Love to you and yours.
