Obituary of Wayne L. Buck
Wayne L. Buck, 96, of Iowa City and formerly of Maquoketa, died Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Bickford Cottage in Iowa City.
Private family services are being planned with burial at Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of Eastern Iowa or St. Croix Hospice of Cedar Rapids.
Wayne Leroy Buck was born October 1, 1927, on the family farm in Baldwin, Iowa, a son of Louis and Wilhelmina (Busch) Buck. After serving in the U.S. Army, he married Wanda M. Smith on July 17, 1948, in Dubuque, Iowa. The couple raised their family in Maquoketa until Wayne’s job with the Iowa Department of Transportation relocated them to Iowa City in 1972. Wayne lived there, in the house they built, from 1972 until 2021 when he moved to Bickford. He was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, win or lose. His beautiful smile and sense of humor will always be held dear to those who loved him.
He is survived by his children Rick (Nancy), Rodney, Lou Ann, Betty (Mike) Breazeale, Nancy Yutzy, four grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren (with one on the way), and brother-in-law Don Littell. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2016, son-in-law Nick Yutzy, great-granddaughter Ella Yutzy, his parents, sister Joan Littell, and brothers Robert (Mary Ann) and Curtis (Jenevieve).
The family thanks staff at Bickford Cottage and St. Croix Hospice for their care and support. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for his family and services.
