To Deb,Rick,Geri and the rest of Bob's family,my sincere condolences. I worked with Bob back in the late 70's at Consumers Co-op,and to say we had a blast would be an understatement!!..I can remember an episode that I think is safe to tell.
It was late spring. All the planting in the fields had been done. We had pretty much emptied the warehouse and if anybody has been there, you know it's pretty frigging big. It was getting late in the day when Ole Harry Smith says "Charlie, sweep the warehouse down before you leave". That's about a 2 hr job so,being a young, dumb 18 yr old,I got right on it. Bob musta been bored over at the shop cause I saw him walking my way. "What the hell are you doing"? he says. "I'm getting thirsty". I knew what he meant so I told him to grab another broom so we could get done quicker. I can't repeat what he told me but he did say "I got an idea". I knew this could go 2 ways,so I kept on sweeping until I heard him fire up the forklift. He scoops up a pallet and heads my direction and tells me to hop on the pallet. "I'll drive and you hold the broom and we'll have this done in no time" he says. Well after about 10 minutes of doing laps, that warehouse was so dusty, you couldn't see out the doors. Harry musta heard that forklift funding at full speed for that whole time. We couldn't see him but we did hear "What the f**k are you guys doing"?.."Get the hell outta here" he says. Well,I did have to finish the warehouse the next day,and Bob was told to stay out of the warehouse for a couple weeks, but we did quench our thirst that night and laughed about the whole time. I'll miss you Old Friend!!
