Marge Hoppin was a major source of comfort and information for our family when we moved from Palo Alto,California to Iowa City in 1968. From that time on and for many years she remained a valued friend .. I last visited with Marge about 12 years ago....we had lunch and caught up on our lives...and we shared memories. I mourn for all of her family and all who loved her. Jeff, Craig, Kate and Glen Carman also send their thoughts and good memories of Marge and Dick.

Margery began volunteering with us at UI Hospitals & Clinics when she was 87 years young! She spent nearly 2,000 hours improving the experience for patients and families at the desk of our patient representative office. She was quite a lady and her professionalism, caring and wit lifted many spirits in this sometimes challenging environment. Staff, patients and families alike benefitted from her presence.

Mrs. Hoppin is a mother figure to me and I am deeply saddened by her passing. As one of Dr. Hoppin’s graduate students, I am forever grateful for Dr. and Mrs. Hoppin’s teachings and kindness in many ways.

Margery hired me in 1971 to work in DSP and it was my privilege to work under her direction for the next 20 years until she retired and I followed her as director. She was a very special, unique, and gracious person who changed my life forever. Brian Harvey

I had the privilege of serving on the First National Board with Marge for a number of years.She was a first class lady who always treated everyone with grace and charm.One of the nicest individuals I have had the pleasure of knowing and people today would do well to follow her example.

Marge was Director of the Division of Sponsored Programs when I arrived at UI in 1984. She played a major role in my receiving external funding from various agencies and foundations for which I will always be thankful. She was always a gracious and welcoming person at DSP, tirelessly dedicated to helping faculty bring many more research resources to UI. My fondest memory of her was the time that she sponsored my trip as an assistant professor to Washington DC area and arranged meetings with all heads of federal funding decision-making. She was on a first-name basis with all of them!

I recall that one of her sons was doing organometallic chemistry research after having done his PhD with a famous chemist. Since that is my area of research, she seemed to go out of her way to help me. I will always have fond memories of Marge at DSP, and I give my sincere condolences to her family.

Marge was such a gracious person. She and my mother, Becky Furnish, were Geology faculty wives and good friends. Marge had a really impressive career and wide interests.

From being early neighbors of the Hoppins on Melrose Court, through years at U-High and West our families have remained close for over 60 years. We remember Mrs. Hoppin fondly from our early youth taking us places in her big blue jeep. She was smart, accomplished, helpful, supportive and a wonderful friend to all.

What an amazing woman professionally ,but my memory is also what a wonderful friend she was.Her longtime neighbor across the street moved to an independent living facility and Marge would come regularly with malts and visit. She will be missed!
