Obituary of Warren E. Biggs
Warren Biggs, age 96 of 701 Oaknoll Drive, Iowa City died Friday, February 6, 2004 at the Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City. Cremation services were provided by Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City. Burial will be at a later date in Reading, Massachusetts. Warren Biggs was born November 4, 1907, in McKees Mills, Canada the son of Joseph and Ida (Kirk) Biggs. He graduated from Lincoln Prep School in Boston, and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII, served in the Pacific, attained the rank of Lt. Commander and retired after 20 years of service. On April 16, 1933, he married Grace Thompson in Portland, Maine. The couple made their home in Belmont, Massachusetts for almost fifty years. Warren was an engineer for B.F. Goodrich, Watertown for over forty-eight years. He and Grace moved to Iowa City in 1992, to be closer to their daughter and her family. In Belmont, he was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church and the Masonic Lodge. Warren enjoyed being able to fix anything, and was always willing to try. He also valued education, knowing that it is the key to this world. His family includes his wife of over seventy years, Grace; daughter and her husband, Lelia and Dr. Charles Helms of Iowa City; son and his wife, Selden Biggs and Annie Millar of McLean, VA; grandchildren, Wesley Helms and his fiancée, Connie Liu, Bethany Helms and her fiancé, Ben Lewis, and Timothy Helms; step-grandchildren, Sangitha and Kalpana Millar. He was preceded in death by his parents, and granddaughter, Emily Helms.
