Obituary of Roy Albert Kabela
Roy A. Kabela, age 89, longtime resident of Iowa City died Sunday, July 16, 2023, at the Lone Tree Health Care Center in Lone Tree, Iowa.
Roy Albert Kabela was born November 9, 1933, in rural Johnson County, Iowa the son of Roy and Anna (Kofron) Kabela. Roy served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He has spent most of his adult life as a teamster truck driver, first starting with Mort Ockenfels trucking then a long career with H&W Trucking retiring after 40 years over the road. Roy was married to Mary Ann Hradek on June 26, 1954, in Iowa City. The couple enjoyed much together, first and foremost their children and grandchildren. But also dancing all the ballrooms of the area. Roy was also known to like his golfing, casinos, watching Wheel of Fortune and of course his Ice Cream, his main staple in the food chain!
His family includes his children, Vickie Bryant (Dan), Ronda Parizek (Wyatt), Annette Kabela and Alan Kabela (Kathy); grandchildren, Krystal Kabela, Lindsay Rider (Johnny), Matt Parizek (Alecia) and Brady Kabela; 3 great-grandchildren, Adisen, Charlee and Makena Parizek; and Roy’s sister, Phyllis Rundell. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant brother, Charlie and sister, Dorothy Chipman.
