I first met Syd around 1976 after I moved to Iowa City and joined a group of women forming a softball team. Syd played the position of 3rd base and was an excellent softball player. There weren't very many throws (no matter how wild some may have been) or hard hits from the batters to 3rd base that got past Syd. And we could usually count on a home run (or two!) each game from Syd. We also could count on her to bring fun and humor during and after the games. There was no shortage of laughter when Syd was around! Over the years I witnessed her husband, Pat, become her best friend and loving spouse. Also how she was a loving and dedicated mother to her children, Meghann and Patrick. We shared good times together over the years, whether it was playing cards, having Mary Kay parties, her showing me her garden (proudly!) or sharing and laughing over parenting stories. Syd was Syd! There was nothing fake about her. Whether it was her intelligence, humor or wit, it was never dull in the company of Syd. Her laugh was contagious! There will never be another Syd. She will be missed by all that were lucky to know her. Love ya, Syd! Teresa Nolta
