Obituary of Margaret J. Weaver
Margaret “Marge” J. Weaver, age 86 of Iowa City passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Monday, June 19, 2023, under the compassionate care of Iowa City Hospice and the staff of the Bird House-Hospice Home of Johnson County.
A time of visitation will be held from 3 to 5 pm Friday, June 23 rd at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service followed by a brief memorial service at 5pm at the funeral home. A private family burial service for Margaret and Lowell will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, as they are laid to rest beside baby Debbie. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her memory to Iowa City Hospice or The Bird House – Hospice Home of Johnson County.
Margaret Jean Cox was born September 8, 1936, in Iowa City, the daughter of Charley and Velma (Frauenholz) Cox. Attending Iowa City schools, she graduated from City High School with the Class of 1955. She then attended and graduated from Iowa City Commercial College. She married Lowell E. Weaver on September 7, 1958, at the Church of the Brethren in South English. The couple made their home in Iowa City where they raised their children and Margaret worked as an Administrative Assistant for a number of attorneys and businesses in Iowa City over the years. The family had many close neighbor friends at their home on Spruce Street. At retirement, she and Lowell moved to the Saddlebrook Community where they enjoyed having many wonderful neighbors and having coffee at the club house. They enjoyed family get-togethers, playing cards with friends, and traveling around the U.S. Margaret also enjoyed volunteering at Mercy Hospital. But near and dear to Marge’s heart was her family, she was the most loving mom, grandma, and sister that one could ever ask for!
Her family includes her children, Jeff Weaver and Chris Stilwell (Matt); her two grandsons, Tavian Stilwell and Nick Stilwell; her sister, Doris Wilson; sisters-in-law, Betty Weaver, Laurilee Chalupa and Lucille Epperly and brother-in-law, Dean Epperly.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lowell; daughter, Debra Weaver; brothers-in-law, Edward Wilson, LaVernon Weaver, Bob Chalupa, and Marvin Nelson; sisters- in-law, Darlene Nelson and Ilene Irons.
