Obituary of Diane L. DeMarco

Diane DeMarco, (70) of Coralville, IA, born October 18, 1952, in Cass City, MI, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023.

Diane was a graduate of Michigan State University.  Throughout her years, she was a highly regarded competitive gymnast, (Big Ten Gymnastics Champ in 1975)

As a long-time educator, Diane DeMarco taught and coached at Boca Raton High School (Florida), where she met her true love, John DeMarco (Later married in 1987). Together, they left Boca Raton to move to Iowa, because Diane accepted the position as the Head Women’s Gymnastics Coach at the University of Iowa from 1980 to 1999.

Over the past several years (2007-2022), Diane DeMarco taught advanced Ballroom Dance classes at the University of Iowa and was a Director of Recreational Services.

She is preceded by her husband, John DeMarco, parents Steve and Geraldine Chapela and is survived by her sister Linda Norris, her niece Kelly Wilkes, as well as numerous extended family members. A private memorial service will be held in Boca Raton, Florida, where she and John will be laid to rest.
