Obituary of James D. Daering

James D. Daering of Iowa City, age 72, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. James' family will receive guests at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation (2720 Muscatine Avenue, Iowa City) on Saturday, April 8th from 10-11 am, concluding with sharing of memories of James' life at 11 am. James was born June 14, 1950, in Washington, Iowa to Duane and Julia (Harvey) Daering. In his senior year at City High, James was a salesman and print ad model for the Saint Clair Johnson men’s clothing store. After high school, James served in the United States Air Force. Following this James moved to Madison, Wisconsin where he opened Modern Design, a furniture business. He had a passion for Danish furniture, and it led his business to 25 years of success. He loved Jazz (especially Paul Desmond), HiFi audio, fine dining, sports cars, and vacations in Door County. James is survived by his sons Justin and Sam, and his siblings Ed and Trish. A simple cremation for James has been arranged in accordance with his wishes. In honor of Jim, please consider listening to Polka Dots and Moonbeams, preferable on vinyl, while enjoying a glass of Bordeaux. It’s what he would have wanted.
