Obituary of Charles L. Belcher

Charles L. Belcher, age 78 of Iowa City died Monday, January 2, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Charles was born December 22, 1944, in Isaban, WV, the son of John and Betty (Lester) Belcher. Following graduation from high school, Charles enlisted in the United States Navy being discharged in 1967. He has spent most of his working career in the transportation field, retiring in 2009. Charles has lived in Iowa City since September of 1999, here he was a member of the Moose Lodge. His family includes his very dear friend, Sandy Hansen and all of her family; his 3 daughters, Rachel Ratcliff, Rebecca Medeck and Virginia Belcher; siblings, Carrie Wicker, Joyce Hayes, and Randy Belcher. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Janice Roberts, Bernice Estep, Ronnie Lester, Maxine, and Bobby Belcher. No public services are planned at this time. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service has cared for Charles’s family and his arrangements.
