Obituary of Lew Howard Woolfrey Jr.
Please share a memory of Lew to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lew Howard Woolfrey Jr. passed away suddenly, after suffering a brain aneurysm, on January 14, 2023, with his loving mom and partner Emily by his side. Lew was a compassionate and loving son, grandson, brother, uncle, nephew, partner, cousin, and friend who was taken from us far too early. Lew was only 44 years old.
His partner, family, and friends meant everything to Lew. Lew’s journey had him relocate several times, but he never forgot those he left behind. He worked diligently to keep in touch and continue to develop meaningful relationships, especially true with his niece, Penelope, and nephew, Miles. Lew treasured sharing his love of heavy metal music with Penelope and playing online games with Miles.
Lew was welcomed into the world by his loving father, Lew Sr. (predeceased) and mother, AnnMarie (Carter) Woolfrey, on November 25, 1978. He spent his early years in Waltham, MA, where he loved being an overprotective older brother to Brian, a doted upon grandson and nephew, a member of a large, happy gang of cousins, and a loyal and fun-loving friend. He played baseball, established his love for reading, became a Chicago Bears fan, and cheered for Boston sports teams (if they weren’t playing against the Bears!). In the 90s, Lew and his family moved to Cornelius, NC, where he and Brian bonded in the shared adventure of making friends and exploring a new area. They developed their shared interests in disc golf and online games; interests that kept them close regardless of the miles apart that they experienced in adulthood. Lew had a special love for animals, especially his own cherished pups. He found harmony in spending time fishing, like his Dad and reading, like his mom. On his quest for independence, Lew eventually moved to Iowa where he fell in love with the area and the people. He settled in, created a full life for himself, made many wonderful friends, and found someone to share his life with, his loving partner Emily. Lew’s ability to make people feel comfortable and included was limitless. He made an impression on everyone who was lucky enough to meet him and he will be missed dearly.
A simple cremation for Lew has been arranged and no services are scheduled at this time. Please continue to keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
