Obituary of Sarah Rickey

Sarah “Sally” Rickey, age 68 of Iowa City died suddenly Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Memorial services will be held at 10am Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. Sarah Elizabeth Robinson was born August6, 1954, in Sherburne, NY, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Cashman) Robinson. She attended schools in Sherburne graduating from high school. She then went on to receive her degree in Home Economics from the SUNY Oneota University, Oneonta, NY. She began a career with Hancock Fabrics that spanned over 27 years and took her and her husband, George to multiple cities across the United States for her work. They ended up in Iowa City in 2003, where she retired at the closing of Hancock Fabrics nationwide. Sally was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon, played with the church bell choir and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Cedar Rapids Concert Coral which their claim to fame was once time their group was asked to perform at the Carniquie Hall in New York City. Sally was an very serious into sewing and quilting, often sewing for others especially when they needed something to make their everyday a bit easier, like seat belt protectors for those with medical tubes that need protection. Her family includes her husband, George who she married in September of 1989; siblings, Greg Robinson (Leslie); Glenn Robinson (Maureen), and Ann Misir (Jai); numerous nieces and nephews and of course her three cats, Donnie, Harry and Hope. She was preceded in death by her parents, and half-brother, John Blair.
