Obituary of Anna Finley

Anna “Ann” Mae Theresa Finley, age 85 of Iowa City died Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service with burial to follow at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. There will be visitation one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Ann’s memory to the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center, St. Croix Hospice or Mercy Foundation. Anna Mae Theresa Sesol was born September 19, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Nicholas and Frances (Host) Sesol. Growing up in Chicago she attended schools there graduating from Harper High School. She married John “Jack” G. Finley, on November 23, 1963, in Evergreen, IL. Prior to moving to Iowa City in 1970 with her family she had worked outside the home for Continental Can Company in Chicago in the business administration area where she had Top Secret security clearance as the company had many Defense contracts. Moving to Iowa City she worked for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance at a local office as an Administrative Assistant. Ann was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. She enjoyed participating in a number of bowling leagues over the years at Plamor Bowling Lanes and also playing euchre, especially at tournaments held at the Hilltop or VFW in Iowa City. Ann had a love of sewing, knitting, and crocheting, and was always most happy when she could share these gifts with friends and family. Her family includes her daughters, Laura Cox (Bryan) and Shari Butterfield (Scott); and three grandchildren: Joshua, Nathan and Katie. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jack; and brothers and their wives, Nicholas “Babe” Sesol (Jan); and Lawrence Sesol (Nancy).
